Trivia

  • Shiftry's evolutionary line can be seen as a counterpart to Ludicolo'southward family unit. All members of their respective families are role Grass-blazon, they starting time evolve at level 14, a respective Evolution stone is used to achieve the final phase, both of them are version-sectional between Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and both are based on yōkai: Shiftry's family is based on the tengu and Ludicolo'south family is based on the kappa.

Origin

Shiftry seems to be based on a mature oak tree and a tengu, Japanese yōkai with long noses who utilize their supernatural powers to protect forests and play barbarous tricks on people. Like Shiftry, tengu are ofttimes depicted with flowing white hair and wearing single-toothed wooden sandals called geta. They also wield magical fans that accept the power to stir bully winds, like to Shiftry's leafy hands and ability to larn moves such as Whirlwind and Hurricane. Its wooden, humanoid torso and large mouth are as well reminiscent of a nutcracker doll.

Proper name origin

Shiftry may be a combination of shifty (tricky or deceitful) and tree.

Dirteng may exist a combination of muddy (tricky or mendacious) and 天狗 tengu.
