Sugar cane must be planted on a grass block, clay, coarse clay, rooted dirt, podzol, mycelium, sand, cherry sand, moss block or mud that is straight adjacent to water, waterlogged cake, or frosted ice (not only above or diagonal to water), or on acme of another sugar pikestaff cake. The adjacent water block can be covered with some other block, whether opaque or transparent, and saccharide cane can all the same be placed and grow next to information technology. Carbohydrate pikestaff grows regardless of light level, even in complete darkness.
